Poem 2 - The Desert

The Desert
Empty
Overwhelming
Nothing
And in that nothingness
I diminish
and expand with
each breath.
I am swept like a grain of sand
on the dry wind,
I have nothing
to tie me to the parched earth,
but then
I look beyond and see
there is a community of mountains
embracing and sheltering in the distance
I look out to the rocky pinnacles of the ages
reflecting the ephemeral formations of the sky.
I look down and discover
the treasures at my feet
the infinitesimal flecks of yellow, red and blue
tucked among the soft grey green
and the flaming fuchsia fireworks
defended by the spears of the desert
and I know
that life is
Abundant
Engulfing
Extravagant
